Pieces de clavecin en concerts by Rameau

Jean-Philippe Rameau, the great French composer of the Baroque era, composed this music in 1741. At his death over twenty years later, it is said that 1500 people attended the memorial service, and a hundred and eighty musicians performed works from his operas. This is the third concert in the 20th season of the Smithsonian at Little Washington. The concert series gives Theatre audiences the opportunity to hear some of the same concerts which are performed in the Hall of Musical Instruments at the Smithsonian's American History Museum on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian Chamber Players: Marc Destrube, violin; Paolo Pandolfo, viola da gamba; Kenneth Slowik, harpsichord. Tickets $25 for adults, $10 under 18.

Music by Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann & MacDonald

Impromptu in B-flat Major, op. 142 No. 3 by Franz Schubert; Sonata in E-flat Major, op. 31 No. 3("The Hunt") by Ludwig van Beethoven; Carnaval, op. 9 by Robert Schumann; and the short contemporary work, "After Dark" by Andrew MacDonald. Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist earns press plaudits as she travels the globe, from here to Japan, to China and to Germany. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she received first prizes at the Mozart International, San Antonio International and Juilliard Concerto Competitions and has performed at many prestigious venues, including the Kennedy Center and Alice Tully Hall. Reviews in the Washington Post have described her playing as riveting and radiant," showing "astonishing clarity and muscle", and praised "her remarkably clear and musical technique". Juber is a world-renowned guitar virtuoso, living, composing, and arranging music in California. As a young musician working in London, he was chosen as lead guitarist for Paul McCartney's "Wings", a group with which he won his first Grammy award. He has recorded 19 solo albums. His solo arrangement of "The Pink Panther" earned him a second Grammy. He was named one of the top acoustic guitar players of all time by Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
