"Jazz, Blues and Broadway"

Playing music from across the spectrum, at this concert John Eaton will include songs by Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Duke Ellington. Eaton combines superb piano playing with rare wit and humor, erudite insights into the history of the Great American Songbook and exceptional appreciation and understanding of all that is best in American popular music. "Washington's legendary jazz pianist, singer, raconteur, historian and wit," The Washington Examiner; "The Master of American Standards," The Washington Post.

Smithsonian at Little Washington

Pieces de clavecin en concerts by Jean-Philipe Rameau

Rameau, the great French composer of the Baroque era, composed this music in 1741. At his death over twenty years later, it is said that 1500 people attended the memorial service, and a hundred and eighty musicians performed works from his operas. This is the third concert in the 20th season of the Smithsonian at Little Washington. The concert series gives Theatre audiences the opportunity to hear some of the same concerts which are performed in the Hall of Musical Instruments at the Smithsonian's American History Museum on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian Chamber Players: Marc Destrube, violin; Paolo Pandolfo, viola da gambe; Kenneth Slowik, harpsichord.

Mike Flaherty's Dixieland Direct Jazz Band

Traditional New Orleans Dixieland Music

The Dixieland Direct Quartet comprises Henning Hoehne, clarinet and alto sax; Bob Boguslaw, piano; Mike Flaherty, drums; Dallas Smith, bass. They have been playing together for almost two decades. Based in Washington, D.C., the band tours extensively both in this country and abroad.

Smithsonian at Little Washington

Sonatas and Trios of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven

The closing concert celebrating this twentieth season of the Smithsonian at Little Washington brings works by the three great composers of the Classical period: Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. The Smithsonian Chamber Players: Ian Swensen, violin; Loretta O'Sullivan, violoncello; Kenneth Slowik, fortepiano.

"Those Other Guys"

Rappahannock's Bill Harris (who is widely known throughout the metropolitan area and beyond) will play music of American composers —composers he calls "those other guys . . . Arlen, Kern, Berlin, and more."

Ben "Cooter" Jones with Cooter's Garage Band

"Cooter's Existential Dilemma"

It's an evening of songs, stories, lame excuses and old jokes from Rappahannock's own Ben Jones, with the ever-popular Cooter's Garage Band.

Molasses Creek

"Traditional Music"

From Ocracoke Island, NC, the band is described as a "high-energy acoustic group . . . with a captivating stage presence, elegant harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and a quirky sense of humor." Award winners on "A Prairie Home Companion", they have several recordings to their credit — and an immensely enthusiastic following in Rappahannock County. Gary Mitchell, guitar and vocals; Dave Tweedie, fiddle and vocals; Marcy Brenner, mandolin, bass and vocals; Lou Castro, dobro, bass and vocals; Gerald Hampton, mandolin and bass.

Audrey Andrist, Classical Pianist

Music by Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann and MacDonald.

Impromptu in B-flat Major, op. 142 No. 3 by Franz Schubert; Sonata in E-flat Major, op. 31 No. 3 ("The Hunt") by Ludwig van Beethoven; Carnaval, op. 9 by Robert Schumann; and the short contemporary work "After Dark" by Andrew MacDonald. Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist earns press plaudits as she travels the globe, from here to Japan, to China and to Germany. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she received first prizes at the Mozart International, San Antonio International and Juilliard Concerto Competitions and has performed at many prestigious venues, including the Kennedy Center and Alice Tully Hall. Her playing is "riveting and radiant," The Washington Post.

Remington Ryde

"The Best Bluegrass from Pennsylvania"

Together over 10 years, Remington Ryde describes its performances as "good traditional bluegrass along with some comedy completing the show." Ryan Frankhouser, guitar and lead vocals; Billy Lee Cox, banjo; Dan Stewart, mandolin; Wally Yoder, bass.

Lawrence Juber, Acoustic Guitarist

Juber is a world-renowned guitar virtuoso, living, composing, and arranging music in California. As a young musician working in London, he was chosen as lead guitarist for Paul McCartney's "Wings", a group with which he won his first Grammy award. His solo arrangement of "The Pink Panther" earned him a second Grammy.
