"THE TEMPEST"
by William Shakespeare
|
The students from Cambridge University who bring this production of “The Tempest” to the Theatre describe the play as “romantic and tragic, eerie and magical; it deals with loss and betrayal; murderous hatred is followed by abundant comedy.” The play is thought to be the Bard’s farewell to the stage and his final production. This will be the seventh annual performance by the Cambridge American Stage Tour (CAST). CAST was formed in 1999 and each year since then they have toured throughout the United States, just before returning to college for the beginning of their university term. CAST’s roots are in Cambridge’s ADC Theatre, which is the oldest student theatre company in England. ‘The Tempest’ was Shakespeare’s farewell to the stage, and is thought to be the Bard’s final production. Tickets $20 adults, $10 under 18

"MUSICAL ARSON"
as performed by PLUCK
|
Three hilarious musicians compete, ridicule, argue and seduce their way through Bach to Beatles. Since winning the prestigious Tap Water Award at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, these crazy characters have astonished audiences in the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia with their unique combination of comedy and superb musicianship. Now it’s WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA’s turn to enjoy Pluck’s melodic buffoonery as they wreak havoc between harmonies. “Gloriously funny,” The Scotsman; “Classical music for all shoe sizes,” Sunday Times; “. . . a mix of sweet music and complete mayhem . . . “ Time Out. PLUCK’s Trio: Flora Allison, cello/voice, graduated from London’s Guildhall School of Music in 2006; Kit Massey, violin, studied at Trinity College of Music in London; Jon Regan, viola, studied music at Exeter University and conducting at Trinity College of Music. PLUCK’s performers, past and present, all trained as classical musicians. Although they met in conventional music circles, they share an unusual desire to do more than just play the instruments that they’ve spent so long learning – something they have undoubtedly achieved with pluck! Tickets $20 adults, $10 under 18
